In My Back Yard

Today was another busy day for us. Z had an impromptu doctor's appointment, and then stayed home the rest of the day. Day to myself... busted lol. So the POTD was again rushed, but I like what I got. I decided to do a quick (as light was fading) walk around my yard, and these are what I came up with.

Oh yeah I need some info. As I was picking up N today his teacher asked if I was going to do anything on Friday with the class for his birthday (P.S. his b-day is actually Saturday). My response... *crickets chirping* lol. I told her I would let her know. Both my, and my sister's b-day's were in the summer, and Z falls over Christmas break. It never even crossed my mind, and I have zero insider info on this. What is the norm?

Love the perspective on that first photo! Both of them are great. As for the birthday thing I teach pre-k. Our kids usually bring in cupcakes or cookies. Don't know what your schools policy is on that though! Hope that helps a little!

  2. I love that first shot too - your perspective is wonderful! The sunset shot is just lovely. As for the b-day thing... The last few years, I've done nothing. (Does that make me a bad mommy?) Our school now has a "no snack" policy, so if I were to take something in, it would have to be something non-edible. In the past, I did pencils and other little tchatches. I don't know how old N is, but if you have a Michael's near you, they might have some dollar crafts that would fit the bill.

  3. I love the bokeh on that first picture! Good luck with the party. We can't take treats into school, but I take them into daycare.

  4. Great shots - love the sunset shot. As for the party - no idea. We were not allowed to do anything for the kids at school on their birthday - no treats, no party invites unless one went to everyone. I would go with Samantha's suggestion of maybe handing out pencils - certainly schools still allow those.

  5. The first shot is great. I like the colors. Sorry - no kids here so I'm no help in birthday advice. My bday is Friday though.....

  6. :) I love yard-like photowalks.

    The first shot is striking.

And I'm sorry, I'm no help with the party. My kid is 15 months old, and for his birthday, I let him smash his cake on the kitchen floor. (I'm an awesome mom).

  7. It depends on the school. Some schools allow cupcakes and cookies (I'd avoid anything with peanuts). Some schools only allow healthy treats. It also depends on the age of the kids. I brought fresh fruit cut up and prepared in individual cups and the teachers loved me for it. One year, I also did miniature bagels with cream cheese and individual bottles of orange juice. Whatever you do, make sure to send enough, not only for the kids in the room, but for 2-3 teachers, and be sure that you don't create work for the teachers - they don't need the extra hassle.

  13. Love that first shot. And as for the birthday, our school allows you to bring a commercially prepared treat for the class. I usually take donuts or cupcakes from the local bakery.
